00:00:00.903 --> 00:00:05.603
Inside of today's episode, you are going to learn why quitting might just be
00:00:05.603 --> 00:00:07.303
the best decision you've ever made.
00:00:07.723 --> 00:00:11.903
Yes, my friend, I'm not only giving you permission to quit; I'm encouraging
00:00:11.903 --> 00:00:14.943
you to quit. And it's all inside of today's episode.
00:00:15.183 --> 00:00:19.303
So with that, I welcome you to what is episode 348.
00:00:20.523 --> 00:00:24.343
Yo, are you ready to flip the script on life? Because those bad days,
00:00:24.463 --> 00:00:26.443
they're just doors to better days.
00:00:26.583 --> 00:00:30.443
And that's exactly what we do here at Grit, Grace and Inspiration.
00:00:30.443 --> 00:00:34.243
Your host, Kevin Lowe, he's been flipping the script on his own life,
00:00:34.503 --> 00:00:38.763
turning over 20 years of being completely blind into straight up inspiration,
00:00:39.143 --> 00:00:41.503
motivation and encouragement just for you.
00:00:41.763 --> 00:00:47.043
So kick back, relax and let me introduce you to your host, Kevin Lowe.
00:00:47.523 --> 00:00:52.323
You put yourself in the picture. It's 2 a.m. You're working on that project.
00:00:52.563 --> 00:00:56.543
You're working on that business venture, the side hustle, the thing that you've
00:00:56.543 --> 00:01:01.443
been grinding away at. you're burning the midnight candle at both ends.
00:01:01.683 --> 00:01:07.303
At the same point, you can't help but wonder, is this really what success looks like?
00:01:07.583 --> 00:01:12.343
And the truth is, we've all been there. We've all found ourselves pushing through.
00:01:12.863 --> 00:01:16.383
Keep going through the motions because we are determined to make it work.
00:01:16.643 --> 00:01:21.463
We're told you have to work hard. You have to fight for what you want, right?
00:01:21.803 --> 00:01:25.483
Success does not come easy. That's what they tell us.
00:01:26.003 --> 00:01:33.143
And maybe in certain situations, that advice is true. But maybe it's not always
00:01:33.143 --> 00:01:37.963
the case. Because what if that advice, that never quit attitude,
00:01:37.963 --> 00:01:40.603
is exactly what's holding you back in life?
00:01:40.983 --> 00:01:45.383
Today, I want to talk about what I'm calling strategic quitting.
00:01:46.063 --> 00:01:50.023
Strategic quitting, it's not about giving up at the first sign of trouble.
00:01:50.203 --> 00:01:53.803
It's not about you playing it safe either.
00:01:53.803 --> 00:02:00.123
It's not about you not willing to put in the work, but rather it's you being
00:02:00.123 --> 00:02:06.003
able to recognize when something is no longer serving you and you having the courage to walk away.
00:02:06.934 --> 00:02:11.394
I spent seven years grinding away at being a travel agent.
00:02:11.734 --> 00:02:14.974
In 2013, I opened the doors to Better Days Travel.
00:02:15.494 --> 00:02:20.954
And for the next seven years, I did the grind. I put in the work.
00:02:21.374 --> 00:02:27.134
I was burning the candle at both ends until 2020 came.
00:02:28.034 --> 00:02:31.874
And the pandemic, well, it made the choice for me.
00:02:32.054 --> 00:02:36.554
It closed my business, and I didn't even have to make that decision.
00:02:36.934 --> 00:02:39.934
But here's the thing, is I realized something really powerful,
00:02:39.934 --> 00:02:47.374
is that I had been fighting, constantly paddling upstream for the past seven
00:02:47.374 --> 00:02:51.014
years, determined to make this business venture work.
00:02:51.014 --> 00:02:56.214
When I started this podcast and I got started coaching, I got started public speaking.
00:02:56.534 --> 00:02:58.794
It was like I was floating downstream.
00:02:59.334 --> 00:03:02.354
I didn't know where exactly the stream was going to take me,
00:03:02.514 --> 00:03:07.854
but I knew it felt right. I knew I was finally on that right path in life.
00:03:08.074 --> 00:03:10.234
It doesn't have to be hard.
00:03:10.454 --> 00:03:14.634
Now, that doesn't mean that I don't work at my business. Goodness gracious, no.
00:03:15.014 --> 00:03:19.334
I'm working more than most people do. But the fact is true.
00:03:19.634 --> 00:03:25.374
It doesn't have to be difficult. If it's so difficult that you're waking up at 3 a.m.
00:03:25.774 --> 00:03:29.734
Dreading what you're about to endure that day, well, then my friend,
00:03:29.974 --> 00:03:34.314
that's probably a really big sign that it's time for you to quit.
00:03:34.932 --> 00:03:41.852
Because here's the thing. What if by you quitting actually opened the door to something amazing?
00:03:42.272 --> 00:03:47.492
You can't experience new opportunities unless you're willing to give up others.
00:03:47.852 --> 00:03:51.532
To help you put this into action, I want you to get out pen and paper.
00:03:51.692 --> 00:03:56.012
And I want you to write down three things that you're committed to right now.
00:03:56.212 --> 00:03:59.712
Three things that you're working towards, that you're working on in your life.
00:03:59.712 --> 00:04:05.492
Now, next to each of those three items, I want you to write down how they make you feel.
00:04:05.732 --> 00:04:08.592
Does it energize you or does it drain you?
00:04:08.892 --> 00:04:15.232
Does it align with who you are or is it maybe kind of pushing the boundaries a bit?
00:04:15.452 --> 00:04:21.372
If you're looking at that list and you're looking at how it makes you feel and
00:04:21.372 --> 00:04:27.432
you can't really find much good, then, my friend, maybe it's a sign that something needs to change.
00:04:27.432 --> 00:04:31.472
That knot in your stomach that comes when you just start thinking about the
00:04:31.472 --> 00:04:33.592
things you're working on. It's okay.
00:04:34.092 --> 00:04:38.132
Maybe that's just a sign that something's not quite in alignment.
00:04:38.532 --> 00:04:44.032
Life is all about a constant up and down cycle of life.
00:04:44.212 --> 00:04:47.432
I oftentimes refer to life as a roller coaster.
00:04:47.932 --> 00:04:52.152
Sometimes it's big drops. Other times it's the double loop.
00:04:52.412 --> 00:04:56.252
And sometimes it's the slow chug to the top.
00:04:56.852 --> 00:05:01.472
You just have to be real with yourself on what part of that roller coaster you're on.
00:05:01.752 --> 00:05:05.592
If you are on nothing but a constant grind,
00:05:05.992 --> 00:05:11.652
constantly chugging your weight up to the top, and it's not fulfilling you,
00:05:11.972 --> 00:05:16.232
well, then my friend, maybe it's time for you to do something different so that
00:05:16.232 --> 00:05:19.692
you can start coasting downhill a little bit more often.
00:05:19.732 --> 00:05:24.252
It's about you being willing to quit the things that are no longer serving you.
00:05:24.832 --> 00:05:31.692
Only you know what that is. I'm just trying to encourage you to look at life a little bit different.
00:05:32.474 --> 00:05:38.614
Now, when it comes to quitting strategically, let's talk about how to quit strategically.
00:05:39.114 --> 00:05:45.554
First off, it's not about burning bridges, but rather think about it closing doors gently.
00:05:45.814 --> 00:05:50.574
I want you to understand that everything in this life, I believe,
00:05:50.874 --> 00:05:53.134
is constantly working for our good.
00:05:53.554 --> 00:05:57.794
Now, yeah, there's some stuff we go through that's bad, but in the big picture,
00:05:58.034 --> 00:06:01.614
I believe it's all making us a better version of us.
00:06:01.614 --> 00:06:06.634
So I encourage you, when you shut the door on this experience,
00:06:06.994 --> 00:06:09.954
on this opportunity, on this thing that you've been working on,
00:06:10.114 --> 00:06:12.094
I want you to give it the respect it deserves.
00:06:12.814 --> 00:06:16.754
Acknowledge it. Appreciate it for the person that it's made you.
00:06:16.994 --> 00:06:21.474
That it's gotten you one step closer to where you're supposed to be in life.
00:06:21.754 --> 00:06:26.774
The second step is I want you to focus on what you're moving towards rather
00:06:26.774 --> 00:06:31.114
than just what you're leaving behind. You have to remember that quitting something
00:06:31.114 --> 00:06:36.194
that no longer serves you, it's opening up space for things to enter your life that do.
00:06:36.554 --> 00:06:41.674
And so if you're sitting there thinking to yourself that you're just not sure,
00:06:42.194 --> 00:06:47.014
well, imagine the amount of time that you free up in your day if you do quit.
00:06:47.014 --> 00:06:50.774
If it's no longer serving you, if you hate what you're doing,
00:06:51.014 --> 00:06:56.714
if it's draining you, if it's making you show up to life, to the world,
00:06:56.854 --> 00:07:03.394
to your family, is not your best self, then imagine if you just got rid of it, if you just quit.
00:07:03.394 --> 00:07:09.314
The biggest thing I want you to understand about quitting strategically is it's not a failure.
00:07:09.514 --> 00:07:15.994
It's a recalibration. It's you making small little adjustments to make life
00:07:15.994 --> 00:07:17.754
fit you a little bit better.
00:07:17.934 --> 00:07:23.214
So if you are ready to take control of your life and acknowledge the fact that
00:07:23.214 --> 00:07:29.634
this isn't working for me anymore, then my friend, you're one step closer to where you need to be.
00:07:30.254 --> 00:07:34.154
So as we wrap up today's episode, I encourage you to look back at that list
00:07:34.154 --> 00:07:37.374
you made. There's three things that you're working towards.
00:07:37.694 --> 00:07:42.014
And I want you to look at them and figure out if any of them need to be crossed off.
00:07:42.354 --> 00:07:45.754
What is the thing that's holding you back from your truest potential?
00:07:46.054 --> 00:07:50.354
What is the thing that no longer gets you excited? What is the thing that's
00:07:50.354 --> 00:07:57.014
no longer serving you? What is the thing that has you showing up to your family,
00:07:57.014 --> 00:08:00.494
to your work, to life, not as your best self?
00:08:00.734 --> 00:08:06.354
Whatever that is, then my friend, I'm encouraging you to go ahead and quit.
00:08:06.863 --> 00:08:13.843
And I'll leave you with this. Sometimes the bravest thing you can ever do is to walk away.
00:08:14.063 --> 00:08:19.243
You'll never know what new opportunities await on the other side if you never
00:08:19.243 --> 00:08:24.463
have the courage to quit, to let go in pursuit of something more.
00:08:24.683 --> 00:08:29.603
With that, my friend, I hope today's episode inspired you, motivated you,
00:08:29.963 --> 00:08:35.383
maybe empowered you to just quit. If you ever have something that you would
00:08:35.383 --> 00:08:38.203
love to ask me, You would love to reach out to me.
00:08:38.403 --> 00:08:42.843

00:08:49.223 --> 00:08:52.483

00:08:52.823 --> 00:08:56.563
We're coming up. It's the end of 2024, entering a new year.
00:08:57.383 --> 00:09:03.383

00:09:03.643 --> 00:09:08.063
