Have you ever felt like everyone around you is moving forward while you are still sitting there, waiting for something in your own life to finally change?
Maybe you have been working hard.
Maybe you have been doing everything you know to do.
Maybe you have stayed patient, kept believing, and kept showing up.
And yet, you still find yourself wondering:
When is it finally going to be my turn?
In this episode, Kevin uses the image of a surfer waiting for the next wave as a powerful reminder that feeling stuck does not mean your opportunity is gone.
Sometimes life moves quickly.
Sometimes it gets painfully quiet.
And sometimes the hardest part is watching other people catch their wave while you are still waiting for yours.
Why Must You Listen?
If you have been feeling stuck, discouraged, overlooked, or frustrated by how slowly life seems to be moving, this episode is for you.
It is especially for the person who keeps looking around and thinking:
Everybody else seems to be getting their chance. What about me?
Kevin shares a simple but important reminder: another person catching their wave does not mean there is not one coming for you.
Your job is to stay in the water.
To stay ready.
To keep believing.
And to resist the temptation to give up simply because your timing looks different from somebody else’s.
Your Challenge
Think about one area of your life where you have been feeling stuck.
Instead of asking:
“Why is nothing happening?”
Try asking:
“What can I do right now to be ready when my next opportunity arrives?”
Then take one small step.
Keep learning.
Keep growing.
Keep preparing.
Keep showing up.
Because your next wave may arrive when you least expect it.

SPEAKER_00: What's going on, and welcome to The Lowdown with Kevin Halo.
This is episode 112, and well, welcome to the show.
Today is going to be a shorter episode than normal because today is more or less going to be a prompt.
Think of a journal prompt, but I'm not going to ask you to write anything.
Because today's episode, I'm going to encourage you to instead to just spend a little bit of time thinking about things, about your life today.

Or maybe based on what I'm talking about, you'll think, oh man, yeah, I was there at one point in my life, and I'm I'm glad things are different now.
Or there's the future we have to think about.
Maybe this will be something to prepare you for what is to come in life.
And when that time comes, maybe you'll think to yourself, hey, you know what?
I think back on episode 112, I heard Kevin talking about this very thing.
That would be my absolute dream is for you to think about today's episode when this happens.
Now, what am I talking about?
What I'm talking about is a post that I did on Instagram and Facebook last week.
And I had posted a picture of a surfer.
Now, if you are familiar with surfing, you will realize that most of the time it's not the glamorous side of surfing that we see on the posters, that we see on the TV shows, where the surfers are standing up on their boards catching the big waves, surfing the tubes, going tubular.
No, most of the time it's sitting and waiting.
You're on your board, legs in the water, feet dangling, you sitting there waiting on the big one.
The big wave.
The wave that then you're gonna turn your board towards shore and quick start paddling with everything you've got before having the wave's momentum catch up and push your board forward, where then, of course, you hop on top of that board and ride it for everything it's worth.
But the picture that I posted was of the slow part of surfing, the less glamorous side, the side of surfing where a group of surfers just sitting there on their boards, stalled out.
There's no big waves coming, but they're sitting there and they're waiting and they're watching because they know at any time they're gonna see coming off the horizon a new set rolling in.
And that's when they get excited and start getting into position.
And when I posted this post on Instagram and Facebook, I compared this to life.
Because I don't know about you, but sometimes in life, don't you feel like that surfer sitting there waiting on the big wave?
You know that period of life when nothing's really happening.
There's nothing bad happening, but there's nothing good either.
It's just stale.
It's a stalemate.
Nothing's going on.
And you kind of feel a little bit discouraged.
It's like you've you've put in all this effort, you've overcome some amazing challenges in your life.
But now what?
Can you feel me?
Hopefully you understand what I'm talking about.
Because I think most people at some point in their life have been in this position.
Or you may very well be in this position right now.
To be honest, some days are different for me than others.
Some days I wake up knowing that, oh man, this is what's on my to-do list.
I'm ready to crush it, gonna totally kill everything on the to-do list today.
Some days I wake up with a to-do list and I know, man, I'm gonna crush this day.
And then there's other days when it just falls flat.
When I sit there and think to myself, what really is the point of all of this stuff, anyways?
Because I don't feel like I'm moving forward.
Sometimes I feel like I'm slipping backwards in life.
What's the point in it all?
You ever have those days too?
I hope I'm not alone in this.
Based on the feedback I got from Facebook and Instagram, I definitely don't think I'm alone in feeling like this.
Because I think a lot of people in life, even people who we think have it all together, who they've got the glamorous life.
I think a lot of times even them, they're people just like us.
And they too have periods of life when you're just sitting there waiting on that next perfect wave to roll it.
Now, I believe that it's this period of our life.
And it may happen many times throughout life that we find ourselves in this situation.
But when we are in this situation, I believe that this is honestly one of the most pivotal, most important, most vital parts of our entire life.
Because this is when we are gearing up for what is to come.
And if you're anything like me as a kid on Christmas, or let's just admit it, even as an adult, patience come Christmas, come my birthday.
That's really not my strong suit.
Because I'm not patient about waiting.
I'm the one who wants to open some gifts on Christmas Eve.
I'm the one who is wanting my birthday present early, because I don't want to wait.
And it's the same thing in these periods of life that I'm talking about, is I don't want to wait anymore.
You know, because all the waiting does is get you discouraged, gets you down.
And to be honest, I don't like to feel like that.
But here's the thing as it is with that surfer, at some point, a new set of waves is gonna come on to the horizon and it's gonna roll on to the beach.
And that surfer is gonna have the opportunity to catch those waves.
It's the same in life, just flows like the ocean.
So I would encourage you today, if you find yourself sitting on that board, looking out at the horizon, hoping for that big one to finally come, just get ready.
Prepare yourself.
Use this time to not get discouraged, to not beat yourself up, to not get in that horrible mindset that all that you've done has been for nothing.
Because I'm here to tell you it's not.
Everything you've been through, everything you've done has been for a reason.
And I believe a good reason.
And right now, I believe that the big one is coming for you too.
I'm hoping the big one's coming for me as well.
Heck, maybe both of us will be on the same wave, riding that thing for everything it's worth.
So today I leave you on this short episode with the encouragement that if life feels a little stale, hold on.
Don't give up, don't paddle back to shore.
Keep waiting, keep watching.
And when it comes, you'll be ready to catch that wave and ride that momentum all the way to shore.
Until next time, this is The Lowdown with Kevin Lowe.
Of course, if you would ever like to work with me as a coach, please be sure to check out the episode show notes where you can find my contact information.
I would love for you to book a discovery call with me.
And let's work through some of the problems you've got and see what we can't do for you to make tomorrow a little bit better than today.
Until next time, just remember the big one's coming.
Get ready.
And soon enough, hop up on that board and ride that way all the way home.
