448: What If 1 Question Could Change Your Life's Direction in the Next 90 Days? (Summer Shift Week 2)

About this episode

Summer has a way of slipping through our fingers. One minute it's Memorial Day weekend. The next, kids are back in school, pumpkin spice is everywhere, and we're wondering where the summer went.

But what if this summer could be different?

What if instead of simply passing time, you intentionally used the next 90 days to build something meaningful?

In Week 2 of The Summer Shift , Kevin invites you to take a mental trip to the beach and asks a powerful question that sits at the heart of personal growth, fulfillment, and intentional living:

What are you building with your life?

Whether you're pursuing a dream, growing a business, strengthening relationships, creating memories with your family, or simply trying to become a better version of yourself, this episode will challenge you to stop drifting through life and start building it on purpose.

Because the life you want isn't created overnight.

It's built one day, one choice, and one intentional moment at a time.

Get Ready to Discover:

  • Why so many people unknowingly let life pass them by
  • The powerful beach-day metaphor that can change how you view your future
  • The difference between simply existing and truly living
  • Why meaningful lives are built through small, consistent actions
  • How to enjoy today while still building toward tomorrow
  • The one question that can help you make the most of the next 90 days
  • Why memories and experiences may be the most important things you ever build

The Key Takeaway:

The next 90 days are going to pass whether you're intentional or not. The real question is: What will you have built by the time they're over?

This Week's Summer Shift Challenge:

Take 15 minutes this week and ask yourself:

"What am I building with my life right now?"

Then identify one small action you can take this summer that moves you closer to the life you want to create.

Remember: Great lives are built the same way great sandcastles are built—one bucket at a time.

<v Speaker1>And hey, if you're new around here, welcome.

Kevin Lowe: This is the podcast that is all about inspiring you.

<v Speaker1>Motivating you, hopefully empowering you to get out there and start living your best life,

Kevin Lowe: No matter what obstacles or challenges you might be facing.

Kevin Lowe: Now, today, as I said, we're in week number two of our summer series, a series devoted to helping you make the most out of this summer.

Kevin Lowe: A time when a lot of us honestly check out.

<v Speaker1>We get soaked into the long

Kevin Lowe: Dog days of summer.

<v Speaker1>And, well, I'm all for that.

Kevin Lowe: I'm all for a little bit of lazy summer days.

Kevin Lowe: But I also believe that if you're listening to this podcast, that you probably have something inside of you that wants more out of life.

<v Speaker1>You want to grow. You want to enjoy life. But you also want more

Kevin Lowe: Out of life. And that is what this summer series is all about.

<v Speaker1>Now, today in particular,

Kevin Lowe: We're taking a trip to the beach.

Kevin Lowe: Now, maybe you live somewhere where you don't have access to a beach.

<v Speaker1>Well, maybe it's

Kevin Lowe: A day at the lake.

<v Speaker1>Or a day at the springs,

Kevin Lowe: Somewhere where some water is included. And I'm just going to assume that whether it's a lake, it's a spring or the ocean, you've got access to a beach.

Kevin Lowe: And so I want to start out with a simple yet powerful question.

<v Speaker1>And I want

Kevin Lowe: You to really think about this question when I ask it.

Kevin Lowe: Have you ever taken a trip to the beach.

<v Speaker1>Been there all day, and yet at the end of the day,

Kevin Lowe: Honestly wondered, where did time even go?

<v Speaker1>Not necessarily because, oh my gosh, you had the time of your life,

Kevin Lowe: You had just been doing all these things.

<v Speaker1>And time flew by.

Kevin Lowe: No, actually quite the opposite.

<v Speaker1>Because instead, in amongst of all the activities,

Kevin Lowe: All the fun, the sunshine, you were honestly checked out.

Kevin Lowe: You were too focused on scrolling your phone.

<v Speaker1>Looking at Facebook, or maybe worried about Monday morning,

Kevin Lowe: Constantly thinking about tomorrow.

<v Speaker1>That is an example of a day at the beach.

Kevin Lowe: But if that's not also an example.

<v Speaker1>Of how so

Kevin Lowe: Many of us are living our lives.

<v Speaker1>I don't know what else is.

Kevin Lowe: We live our lives busy, distracted, always thinking about the what-if scenario.

<v Speaker1>Always worried about tomorrow,

Kevin Lowe: Never actually focusing on today.

<v Speaker1>And so today, I want to bring your attention to this reality that so many of us are living our lives

Kevin Lowe: Where it's just passing us by.

<v Speaker1>So, today, though,

Kevin Lowe: We're specifically focused on.

<v Speaker1>How do we really make something out

Kevin Lowe: Of this summer? We've got a few months of some of the best days ever of the whole year.

Kevin Lowe: And, yeah, I want you to have fun this summer.

<v Speaker1>I want you to enjoy life.

Kevin Lowe: That is the point of this podcast. But I also.

<v Speaker1>Want you to begin to think, what am I building out

Kevin Lowe: Of my life? What can I do with this summer?

<v Speaker1>How can I make these next three months,

Kevin Lowe: The heart of summer.

<v Speaker1>Really mean something? Move the needle forward

Kevin Lowe: In my life.

<v Speaker1>Personally, professionally. I believe it all starts by getting intentional on <v Speaker1>what you're building with your life.

Kevin Lowe: Because my friend, whether you know it or not.

<v Speaker1>Every day, you're either building or you're not.

<v Speaker1>You're creating or you're not. You're designing, you're dreaming or you're not.

Kevin Lowe: So the question comes back to what are you building?

<v Speaker1>What are you designing, creating, dreaming of?

Kevin Lowe: Well, I believe to answer that, we go back to the beach.

<v Speaker1>When you go to the beach,

Kevin Lowe: There's two very different ways of spending the day.

Kevin Lowe: Let's take person A, we'll call her Susie. And we'll take person B.

<v Speaker1>We'll call him Tom.

Kevin Lowe: Two people, Susie and Tom, both at the beach for the day. But here's the difference.

Kevin Lowe: Susie, she sets it up.

<v Speaker1>Man.

Kevin Lowe: Family gets to the beach.

<v Speaker1>She's got the umbrella unpacked,

Kevin Lowe: Got the blanket spread out, unpacks the cooler with the lunch.

<v Speaker1>The sandwiches, the chips,

Kevin Lowe: The fresh fruit, all the things. She goes out and plays Frisbee with the kids.

<v Speaker1>Tries her hand at surfing,

Kevin Lowe: Maybe even attempts to fly a kite.

<v Speaker1>Now, Tom, on the other hand,

Kevin Lowe: Our other person, he spends the whole day just sitting.

<v Speaker1>In the van. Yeah, he's got the door open, windows down, but he never even gets <v Speaker1>out, never even puts his feet in the sand. And if he does,

Kevin Lowe: Well, oh, gosh, he's quickly brushing the sand off, trying to focus on his phone.

Kevin Lowe: Because, of course, that's where his attention is.

<v Speaker1>He's never bothered to look around.

Kevin Lowe: No, he's scrolling through the phone.

<v Speaker1>Checking emails, working on the schedule

Kevin Lowe: For the week.

<v Speaker1>At the end of the day,

Kevin Lowe: Both Susie and Tom, they both went to the beach.

<v Speaker1>But only one of them actually experienced it.

Kevin Lowe: And in terms of what we're building with our lives.

<v Speaker1>Only one of them actually built <v Speaker1>anything. Tom, he built nothing because he didn't choose to live life.

Kevin Lowe: Susie, on the other hand.

<v Speaker1>She built something. She built memories.

Kevin Lowe: She built experience.

<v Speaker1>And that, my friend, is the pivotal

Kevin Lowe: Question we all have to wrestle with.

<v Speaker1>Is how are we living? How do we want to live? Not just a day at the beach,

Kevin Lowe: But every single day of our lives.

<v Speaker1>Are we living with intention? Are we making the most out of every opportunity <v Speaker1>we're given? Or are we just

Kevin Lowe: Letting life pass us by? When we want to get really deep and talk about developing.

<v Speaker1>Building, creating a meaningful life,

Kevin Lowe: People who live a purpose-driven life, they realize that it's not just the big things.

Kevin Lowe: It's the little things compound over time.

Kevin Lowe: Big lives are built in small moments.

<v Speaker1>It's the normal everyday wins.

Kevin Lowe: The times that you say yes to experiences that ordinarily you would say no to.

<v Speaker1>It's brick by brick.

Kevin Lowe: Or in this case.

<v Speaker1>If we're at the beach,

Kevin Lowe: It's bucket by bucket of sand.

<v Speaker1>Building the castle, taking the time to

Kevin Lowe: Try something new. like surfing, flying a kite, having fun.

<v Speaker1>And again, to hit home on our metaphor of

Kevin Lowe: What we're building.

<v Speaker1>I want you to remember,

Kevin Lowe: Small actions, they lead to big results.

<v Speaker1>The most amazing sandcastles,

Kevin Lowe: They didn't just appear. No, it started out by the person getting buckets of sand.

<v Speaker1>One bucket after another,

Kevin Lowe: Stacking them high.

<v Speaker1>And then beginning

Kevin Lowe: To shape the sand.

<v Speaker1>Form it into the amazing castle that it becomes.

Kevin Lowe: And of course, at first, with any sandcastle, it doesn't look impressive.

<v Speaker1>The people around you, they don't see what you do because

Kevin Lowe: They don't have your.

<v Speaker1>Same vision. They have their own perspective. And they just see you with a bunch <v Speaker1>of sand thinking to themselves,

Kevin Lowe: They have no idea what they're doing.

<v Speaker1>Meanwhile, they come back at the end of the day. And oh my gosh,

Kevin Lowe: You've just shaped that sand into something incredible.

<v Speaker1>Now, continuing on our little metaphor of the sandcastle, I want you to realize that in life,

Kevin Lowe: We all want results.

<v Speaker1>And the quicker those results can come, well, the better we believe it to be.

Kevin Lowe: And let's face it.

<v Speaker1>It's how it

Kevin Lowe: Is with everything in life.

<v Speaker1>We don't go online, go on YouTube and research how to get in shape in 10 years.

Kevin Lowe: We never look for the exercise that tells us that we can have six-pack abs in six months.

<v Speaker1>No. What do we do? We want a

Kevin Lowe: 10-minute exercise that we can do three times a week and have six-pack abs in six weeks. That's what we're looking for.

<v Speaker1>We're looking for

Kevin Lowe: Big results in a short amount of time. We want less work, less effort, bigger results.

Kevin Lowe: That's just how we live our lives.

Kevin Lowe: But the fact is true is that there really is truly no such thing as an overnight success.

<v Speaker1>Meaningful things, the things that mean something to us,

Kevin Lowe: To have a life that truly is purposeful, it takes time.

<v Speaker1>It's designed with intention. It's every day working towards that.

<v Speaker1>And maybe right now, here in the summer months,

Kevin Lowe: Is your opportunity to begin designing it.

<v Speaker1>Creating it, working towards it.

Kevin Lowe: It's having experiences.

<v Speaker1>Maybe you think to yourself,

Kevin Lowe: Though, that, well, my dream is to own my own business.

Kevin Lowe: So how in the world does having fun this summer move the needle forward with that?

<v Speaker1>Well, my friend, you never know what opportunities are out there.

<v Speaker1>You never know what the next relationship that you form can do.

<v Speaker1>Yeah, maybe it just becomes a good friendship.

Kevin Lowe: Maybe it becomes the business partner.

<v Speaker1>You never know what the person parked next to

Kevin Lowe: You at the park.

<v Speaker1>Or at the beach does. Maybe they help people like you get investment opportunities in a business.

<v Speaker1>Maybe there's somebody who's an entrepreneur themselves. They've already been there.

Kevin Lowe: They've done what you're trying to do.

<v Speaker1>But if you never get out

Kevin Lowe: Of the house.

<v Speaker1>If you never step out of the car and actually enjoy the day at the beach, <v Speaker1>then my friend, you're never going to open the door for any of

Kevin Lowe: Those opportunities to happen.

Kevin Lowe: And let's face it.

<v Speaker1>No matter what our goals are,

Kevin Lowe: Whether it's to get in shape, whether it's to start a business.

<v Speaker1>To make meaningful income, my friend, right now, it's summer.

<v Speaker1>It's a beautiful season of longer days,

Kevin Lowe: Beautiful weather.

<v Speaker1>Get out there and enjoy it. Because I've learned that dreams are amazing.

Kevin Lowe: I believe, honestly, big dreams, big goals, I believe they're pivotal for us to get through life.

Kevin Lowe: But that doesn't mean that we're supposed to stop enjoying life today in pursuit of tomorrow.

<v Speaker1>No, I believe we can pursue our dreams, go after our goals while still enjoying today.

<v Speaker1>And that is what I want for you in particular.

<v Speaker1>is I want you to be building something,

Kevin Lowe: Creating something, designing something.

<v Speaker1>But I also want you to focus on enjoying right now, this moment.

Kevin Lowe: So <v Speaker1>If you want To make the most out of this summer.

<v Speaker1>If you want to take advantage of

Kevin Lowe: The longer days.

<v Speaker1>The beautiful nights, the days where you spend all day at the beach and you <v Speaker1>come home with a sunburn and sand in your hair and memories that

Kevin Lowe: Will last forever.

<v Speaker1>Well, this is your opportunity to start living,

Kevin Lowe: To start enjoying this time of year.

<v Speaker1>And all the while, focusing on what you're building, what you're creating.

<v Speaker1>And honestly, my friend, maybe the most important thing that you can

Kevin Lowe: Focus on right now.

<v Speaker1>Is building memories,

Kevin Lowe: Creating experiences, putting yourself into position to make something out of your life.

Kevin Lowe: Now, especially if you're a parent, a grandparent, you've got you.

<v Speaker1>But you've also got your kids, your grandkids to think about.

Kevin Lowe: Start thinking of ways in which you can have them experiencing life, experiencing the world.

<v Speaker1>A day at the lake, a day at the beach, it doesn't cost a whole lot of money.

<v Speaker1>It's something that we can all do. We can afford. And honestly, <v Speaker1>those are the kind of experiences that stay with you, that mean something.

Kevin Lowe: So if.

<v Speaker1>You get nothing

Kevin Lowe: Else out of today's episode, if you're still thinking to yourself.

<v Speaker1>This episode was useless because I'm not building anything.

<v Speaker1>I encourage you to think twice because I believe we're all building something

Kevin Lowe: With our lives.

<v Speaker1>Memories, experiences, ourselves. In addition to pursuing dreams, <v Speaker1>creating a business, making something out of nothing.

<v Speaker1>We all have that opportunity and it's right here waiting on us

Kevin Lowe: To take hold of it. My friend, this was week number two of The Summer Shift, a series devoted to helping you shift out of merely surviving life and into thriving within it.

Kevin Lowe: I hope you'll come back next week for week three of the Summer Shift series.
